Welcome

Welcome to Pickpocket Emporium

As I build this site, please refer to my Instagram page for the latest updates…kindly visit; Pickpocket Emporium .

In the meantime, I will share the philosophy behind Pickpocket Emporium and what you can expect to find here in the future.

I am a doll maker and artist. I love history and the natural world and endeavor to combine them in my work. I borrow from the past, especially the Victorian, Edwardian, and Regency periods, but I love to throw in a little Medieval and even Prehistory creations. I also draw inspiration from other cultures and countries, but admittedly, my work tends to reflect Eurocentric and Colonial American fashions and ideals.

I love classic literature and art and find much inspiration there as well. Like the art work of Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, Dorothea Tanning, Arthur Rackham, John Martin, George Frederic Watts, and John William Waterhouse, among many others. And literary works from Mary Shelley, Edgar Allen Poe, Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, the Bronte Sisters, Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and so very many more.

I feel like a pickpocket of a sort, borrowing ideas and inspiration from the past, thus the name. I never directly copy other works of course, but you will see reflections of the past in all that I do. I also like to show the ‘other’ side of things, like Dickens and Gaskell; it’s important to see works that portray the plight of the common people, or even the poor…like pickpockets themselves.

I steer clear of anything too dark and definitely nothing gruesome as I’m terribly sensitive to that sort of thing, but a little darkness and mystery is just plain fun…like Halloween everyday! I love cats, reading a good book, cozy spaces, music, and art. I also love long walks and fresh air.

I collect old and antique items as well, and every once in awhile I will share some on Instagram for purchase.
